My Favorite Podcasts

I’m pretty sure I’m a little late to the game, but podcasts have been my go-to lately. I very rarely have time to sit down and read (I really should take time out of my day for that!), so the digital form of a book or listening to a podcast is how I’ve been using any spare downtime I have! I usually listen when I’m driving to and from shoots and weddings since that’s when I don’t have anyone else in the car with me.

My podcast playlist looks an awful lot like my music playlist… a mix of just about everything. Check out my current favorites!

1. The Way I Heard It

All good stories have a twist, and all great storytellers are just a little twisted. Join me for a different take on the people and events that you thought you knew, from pop culture to politics, Hollywood to history… The Way I Heard It is a series of short mysteries for the curious mind with a short attention span.

Most people know of Mike Rowe from the Discovery Channel’s “Dirty Jobs”. He’s that down to earth, good-sense-of-humor guy that has a voice you can’t mistake. When I randomly came across his podcast on a trip to North Dakota, I instantly became addicted to the way he told his stories. The episodes are short, like 10 minutes, and have a way of sucking you in trying to figure out who or what he is talking about before he reveals it at the end of the show. It’s the perfect show for the “curious mind with a short attention span”!

2. The Minimalists Podcast

Joshua Fields Millburn & Ryan Nicodemus, known as “The Minimalists” to their 4 million readers, help people live more meaningful lives with less…

This is a really recent find for me. My curiosity peaked about these guys when I watched the Netflix documentary Minimalism and noticed that some of the film was shot in Missoula, Montana (we are practically neighbors)! Josh and Ryan are local dudes who left their six figure careers for a simpler life. Their podcast is guaranteed to make you want to throw everything away, kinda like watching an episode of Hoarders! The best part is, they give reasons and methods behind de-cluttering your life and encourage you to go only as deep into “minimalism” as is logical for your lifestyle.

3. The Chase Jarvis Live Show

On Chase Jarvis LIVE, I dig into what makes some of the world’s top creative entrepreneurs, artists, and authors tick. You’ll hear from Pulitzer, Oscar, Grammy Award winners, New York Times best selling authors and the best entrepreneurs of our times. Every episode is an opportunity to learn actionable insights to help you live your dreams in career, hobby, and life.

This guy. I love Chase. He is so easy to listen to! He invites people from every spectrum of entrepreneurship, not just creatives, to hang out on his show and chat about how to live out your idea of a successful life and business. You can count on little golden nuggets of actionable insight with every. single. episode. It’s awesome. Oh, and Chase is really active on Snapchat (@chasejarvis)!

4. TED Radio Hour

A journey through fascinating ideas, astonishing inventions, and new ways to think and create. Based on riveting TEDTalks from the world’s most remarkable minds.

If you have ever seen any TEDTalks, you’ll love TED Radio Hour. I shamelessly nerd out with TED. They have episodes that literally cover everything under the sun, and it really satisfies my ADD learning habits. Science, Art, History, Love, Life, Death, Technology… you can listen to brilliant people that will inspire you, fascinate you, and make you feel really small and really big at the same time. Check it out!
